Pauline van Dongen

Pauline van Dongen is a Dutch fashion designer and renowned expert in wearable technology born in Amsterdam. After graduating from ArtEZ, Academy

of Arts in Arnhem, she stablished her own studio in 2010. The design studio offers a creative and explorative space for the dynamic intersection of fashion and technology. It is dedicated to collaborative, cross-disciplinary work that enables innovation and experimentation to take the form of a truly wearable and desirable product. Her work stands out by its minimalist design and clean look, but especially by an experimental and innovative approach. The purpose of her work is to bring fashion and technology together in a way that is more intimate, intuitive and body-centered. Working with unconventional materials and new technologies triggers her to investigate the application, processing and finishing of it in a garment.

Pauline’s vision is based on the belief that technology can add new value and meaning to fashion, enhances embodied experience and thus return fashion’s value to people so that they can cherish their garment for a longer period. She believes the future of fashion lies in its premise to be dynamic and responsive. To her, technology is not a mere tool, but rather one of aesthetics. Alongside with creative work in the studio, Pauline is at the time involved in a PhD pro- gram, Crafting Wearable 2013-2017, in collaboration with the TU/e University in Eindhoven.
