Lieke Pijpers (1984) studied Industrial Design Engineering at the Delft University of Technology and holds a Master degree in Strategic Product Design. Throughout her entrepreneurial career ‘sustainability’ has been the main theme, while her background enabled her to focus on a technical point of view where needed.
Lieke co-founded The Next Closet in 2013, as a result of her ambition to create a sustainable impact through product innovation, in combination with an unmet need to recycle pre-loved garments. The Next Closet is an online peer-to-peer platform for second hand designer fashion. Its mission is to inspire women to invest in qualitative fashion items by reselling their wardrobes via the consignment services offered by The Next Closet. Apart from the overall business strategy, Lieke is responsible for the technical development of the e-commerce platform. This platform is built in-house and designed from a user-centered point of view. Lieke leads the product development team consisting of both Ruby on Rails, UX and App developers.
Prior to The Next Closet Lieke has kick-started several companies; sustainable campaign agency Professional Passionates, transition platform the Circle Economy and social enterprise ProPortion Foundation.
